I celebrated my 21st birthday yesterday. I drank. A lot but not too much. Had dinner at Gordon Biersch with some friends, went to a few bars, ended up at Sofa Lounge - there was a performance there. Didn't take too many pics becuase I was kinda out of it...but here are a few...the one of all of us at the restaurant turned out really crappy haha so that has been omitted. Thanks to those who made it - I know it's crunch time right now but it means a lot! :)

Me taking a shot with Kat - her signature Sambuka shot (lit with fire). All the girls took this round. Man did it burn lol.

So I woke up - no hangover fortunately...cleaned the bathroom, showered, baked a pizza. I'm surprised I had all that energy haha. So I made a book today, it turned out better than I thought. I'm proud of myself! This was a research type project in which we were given text and we had to edit it - come up with a concept - a design grid etc etc and yeah phsically make it.

I think my concept is ok but the illustrations I found for my book kick ass. Actually I think I'm the only one who used illustrations - I thought the prof would hate me for it, but she just thought it was "huh-lare-E-uhs". I don't know if that is good or bad. I hated this project, it made me hate this class, the professor, and design for a while. That bitch.

I've decided I like to physically make books but not design them. I think I might make a few sketchbooks or something over the summer. Maybe a photography book....

can't wait until school is over. I'm going to the beach.

Things have been tough lately but I'm going on these little adventures between classes with my Canon crew, Brandon and Gerard. This photo is magical to me. (Photo of Brandon and I taken at Fremont hills by Gerard)

Time:10:51 pm.
I am typing on my new MacBook Pro!!! (the "PaulaBook"). It's sexy. hardware and interface are beautiful. I also got the mac's two button mouse which really doesn't do much...lol should have known it's not like windows. they have it just to suck PC users in, which was successful. I love the computer's remote control too!!!

so i was doing some research on my design project on overconsumption and I ran across this passage about how people who's parents use money to show love spend money on themselves to show themselves love. It made me think a lot. btw, I am still sticking to my research - i got a new computer after my old one died (is dead) AND I am not going to get rid of it to cause more waste. Go me.

i think i should really go out this weekend...i need to get out of this weirdness that I am in right now. I want to see Matt and Vanessa.

I ate alphabet soup today in order to improve in typography. It's dorky but my roomate thinks its cute. I'll let you know if it works. actually that's all i had for "dinner" so I think I'm going to go eat some reduced fat something or other now.

i stopped writing in livejournal a while ago. i use xanga. www.xanga.com/cyberiia

I'm DYING to get a tattoo like this (minus the chick. not into have people on my body). I think I finally have a direction of style I want to go towards. Still don't have a subject yet though. Japanese + art nouveau influence, no shading, no color, not in contained shape, large, across back or side. And it has to be big becuase I see no point in getting a small one. I love the geometric figures in that, its very uhhh whats the guy...Klimt? Gustav Klimt? Something like that. Love it love it love it. Hrmmm and I dont want words either, I like art without the distraction of words... Oh and I like how that one's neither too 2D or 3D. I have a lot of drawing and thinking to do before I get one.

Time:10:35 am.
- Saw Death Cab For Cutie & Stars (they rocked, but not the acoustics)
- Saw Dara&Co. from high school there.
- Worked in the school studio until 5AM.
- Did a presentation about Chinese brush painting and its connection to nature.
- Had coffee with my Humanities professor. Learned a lot.
- Went on a date. That was actually fun...
...in which I played pool, went to go play with horses and looked at the stars.
- Consumed too much coffee and missed out on sleep becuase it was the most stressful week of this semester so far.
- Went to San Francisco Museum of Modern Art with my Humanities professor and a few other students via caltrain. He bought us lunch, museum tickets, and dinner along the waterfront. I saw so much amazing art work at the museum (much of it very very very famous). I won't describe it becuase I can't.

I took some photos today. I had a great day - I saw my best friends Matt and Vanessa whom I love and miss so very much :) Took reference photos of subways for my website, went to Borders, had sushi, went back to Saratoga to have a dinner party with my parents.

I also had yummy Salvadorian food with design nerds, went to Popscene in SF for Yuichi's birthday and had a groovin time listening to a strange Swedish indie pop band, and did my laundry. I thought I had work tomorrow this whole week and I checked my calendar and I DON'T HAVE WORK! I was just imagining things. That's great becuase I get my work done but it also sucks becuase it means I have to get my work done. Fuck.

Well that's ok becuase the Beatles rock.

Hey just want to tell you guys to check out the exhibit called "Revolutionary Tides" at Stanford Univeristy Cantor Art Museum. Check out their website (it's super cool too!): (crowds.stanford.edu - click on "crowds"). The show is beyond awesome - propoganda posters from around the world! I was really looking forward to going, and it was better than what I expected it to be.

I'm going to post a few pieces from the show but you have to go there to see them! The posters area larger than you think they are, much bigger than modern posters today. It's kind of sad that the whole propoganda poster thing died out becuase it totally kicks ass...I want to make my own anti-war posters to post all over San Jose now, haha. Stupid city regulations. Graffiti is art.

And you know what else is cool is that these posters are respected enough now to have their own show - and it's interesting how people kept this kind of thing, theyre printed on shitty paper and all that so it wasn't really meant to be saved.

Being at the exhibit was an actual experience, it took me to a different time and place - the paranoia, the chaos, the mass movements that went on - is so completely insane. It's like science fiction. It was also interesting how different countries used univerisal symbols like the first and the crowds and all that...oh yeah and it was interesting to see how different leaders were portrayed. I've decided that Hitler looks weird and Mao looks like a nice guy in his pictures. A few others looked worried as if the burden of leading a mass movement was too much to bear...

So before I turn this into an essay (heh I could write a 10 page essay on motifs I am a huuuge fan yes I know, totally nerdy) I'll start posting pics...but I'm telling you, gotta see this in person...

....so fucking cool. It's what, my favorite part of both graphic design (major) and humanities (minor)?! I was going to write out the meaning behind each but eh I'm too lazy so if you're curious go to the website...it's all very symbolic.

Unbelievable! I did so much this week...
1) went to a Hindu temple
2) preformed cha cha for my latin dance class final
3) went to a club for Halloween
4) went to the Cantor Museum at Stanford to look at 20th century propganda posters (AWESOME)
5) partied with the designers like I've never partied before (Costco/set up/clean up, drinking, smoking, dancing, streaking and being stupid)
6) went to see Silicon Valley Symphony perform Gershwin (AWESOME)
7) had lunch and coffee with a professor + friends
8) finally went home to see my parents to let them know I'm still alive (haven't seen them in a while due to work overload)

Illustration for "Toxic By Products of the Silicon Valley: Illuminating the darker side of the technology womb" article in Access Magazine.

Points I was trying to hit:
1) toxins
2) enviroment
3) technology.

Did I get it right? Opinions appreciated, I know it needs a lot of work. Thanks.

Yesterday was such a long day....had design lecture + critique + put together these calendars we're selling...then went to two parties... Well anyway here are a few pics from last night. It was great doing something non design related (well except for the fact that I ran into a girl from my class at the party which was cool).

woot woot finally done with this shit. It's a CD cover. The only reason I'm updating this is becuase I'm waiting for the stupid ink to dry. I know I'm going to be criticized for the green color but I like it. It's 5 AM. I've been sleeping at this time everyday for the past two weeks or so.

In other news, we picked up our 2nd fridge to manage our fridge crisis. I am also hooked on America's Next Top Model despite the fact that I don't really have time to watch TV. I also need to go to the gym more.

Had a loooong but fun Thursday. Should have slept more the night before. Spent the whole day with the class, 675 photos were taken on my camera. NO JOKE. That is what happens when a digital SLR camera is in a room full of designers. We took a tour of a print shop in San Jose. Well anyway here is the day in photos (most taken by Gerard)....I hope this isn't boring. More can be found HERE.

So we all designed different months for a purely-conceptual-non-working-calendar which we are going to be selling which means you guys reading this will buy one because as you can see its pretty freaking awesome right? Right.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
So we did this thing called a press check in a conference room where we basically look at every centimeter of this proof for stupid little things like wrong colors or black specks. Which I stopped caring about becuase I just got tired of doing the project. The photo is funny becuase everyone looks frantic and I just look confused.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I'm meauring oh-so-accurately without a ruler.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I like this photo for some reason.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Our professor (the one guestring) is one of the best professors/teachers I've ever had. We all seem to respect him a lot, he puts a lot into us and is really inspiring...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
This guy attempted to explain to us how the print shop did all this crazy computer work but he made no sense at all. It was a freaking 700 step process or something.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
So before stuff gets put on paper, the information goes from digital to this metal plate that they make. So we're all standing around looking at that and Darwin in the middle is looking all GQ.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
loading the metal plate into the ink-splatter-machine-thingy. I forgot all the terminology already.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
our project in a whirlwind

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
our project being printed on this crazy million dollar german printer that spits out god knows how many prints a minute.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
At the time they seemed to be printing at least a million (again, no joke) of these Safeway 40% off tags for oatmeal. There were stacks of this shit all over the place to be distributed all over the country.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Went to In-And-Out for lunch (a vegetarian's nightmare? almost.) I am so proud of my french fries picture. They were pretty damn good.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Held a critique that evening for the beginning graphic design class. This photo is hilarious (it was staged).

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
the stage for criticsm.

Yep thats all hope that didn't put you to sleep. Which reminds me, I should probably sleep right now.
